At approximately 10:40am on Tuesday September 20, 2022, the Granite Falls Police Department was called to investigate the discovery of a deceased person in a secluded area on the Chippewa County side of the city limits.  Officers responded to that secluded area to find the body of 26-year-old Granite Falls resident, Jonathen Andrew Knutson who had been missing since Saturday.

On Saturday morning,  September 17, family members had contacted the Granite Falls Police Department to report Jonathen as a missing person.  The family reported that he had left his residence on foot around 2:30am and he had indicated threats of wanting to harm himself.  Immediately officers, family members, first responders and volunteers began searching the city limits..  Searches were conducted by air with drones, by ground with tracking K-9’s and even by boat on the Minnesota river, but efforts to locate Jonathen were unsuccessful until the body was discovered on Tuesday.

Jonathen’s body was transported to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office in Ramsey Minnesota for autopsy to determine his exact cause of death.  No foul play is expected, there is no danger to the public and the investigation into Jonathen’s death is ongoing.  No further information about the investigation is available at this time.

The Granite Falls Police Department was assisted by a multitude of agencies and volunteers including the family and friends of Jonathen Knutson, the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office, the Granite Falls Fire Department, The Upper Sioux Community Drone Team, Redwood Falls Fire Department, Central Lakes Search and Rescue of Minnesota, K9 Emergency Response Team of Minnesota and Wisconsin, K9 Search Midwest of Wisconsin and Minnesota, the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota State Patrol,
